Sketch Your Own

Tools you'll need. As we like to say, draw softly and carry a big eraser. Accurate design with plants helps when you draw a plan. Use 1/4" grid paper and make each square equal to a foot. You may also want to have a circular template or two to trace around, since shrubs and trees are usually indicated by different circles.

Example: indicating a dwarf shrub that is 3' wide means your circle will cover 3 squares on your grid paper.

As a finishing touch, colored pencils will help you get a sense for how your final garden palette will look.
